WHY BRAKES NEED REPAIRS
Brakes wear down just like any other part or system. In fact, some parts of your
brake system are actually designed to wear down. After all, stopping your car is a big job. It
requires lots of pressure and friction to reduce your speed when you’re on the road.
It all starts with stepping on the brake pedal. The pressure you apply pushes
brake fluid through the brake lines and out toward your wheels. There, it comes to a set of
calipers. These hover above the rotors like clamps. Calipers don’t create enough friction to
slow the rotors down, though, so brake pads are attached to them.
The calipers close in on the rotors and force the brake pads to make contact with
them. This creates the necessary friction to slow them—and your vehicle—down. Over time, brake
pads wear down, however. That’s why you’ll need to bring your brake pads in for maintenance
every once in a while. You’ll also need adequate brake fluid for the system to work
properly.
