How should I prepare to return my leased Chevy?

As you prepare to return your leased vehicle to the dealership, there are a few steps you’ll want to take. Do the following to make sure your vehicle is return-ready:

  • Clean the interior and exterior
  • Locate all spare keys and fobs
  • Gather all included accessories
  • Find the Owner’s Manual

You will also want to clear your technology systems of all data. Ensure no addresses, phone numbers, or other contact information is left on them.

It’s also important that your vehicle is returned with the original manufacturer wheels. If you equipped it with aftermarket wheels, you will have to remove them.

How do I schedule an inspection for my leased Chevy?

About 120 days before your lease is over, you can contact the dealership to schedule your pre-return lease inspection. This inspection is complimentary and can be done at the location of your choosing.

What do dealerships look for during a lease inspection?

During your lease inspection, dealerships will look for signs of wear and tear on the interior and exterior. Small issues are considered normal and should not result in repair fees.

On the outside, they will look for dents in the body, scratches in the paint, and cracks in the windshield glass. They will also check the tires for tread depth of at least 4/32 of an inch, and for any damage to the tires themselves.

Inside, they’ll inspect the upholstery for tears, stains, and burn marks. They will also make sure that the technology systems are working, and inspect the dashboard for any warning lights that indicate maintenance is needed.

Should I repair my leased Chevy?

You are welcome to repair any excess wear and tear that was found during the inspection, or schedule any maintenance that is needed. Make sure to keep all receipts from those appointments, as credit can be applied to your account for those repairs.

Can I return my leased Chevy to a different dealership?

Yes, you can return your leased Chevy to a participating GM dealership that is closer to you. The original dealership is the more ideal place to return it, as they began the initial transaction. If, however, you’ve temporarily or permanently moved away, you can contact a more local dealer to return the vehicle.

Can I buy my leased Chevy?

Yes, you can officially purchase your leased vehicle at any time. You don’t need to wait until the lease term is over.
