HOW OFTEN DO I NEED AN OIL CHANGE?
An oil change is one of the most crucial and common services that your vehicle requires. When the time comes, you’ll want to have it done as soon as you can.
Luckily, your vehicle will typically let you know when it requires an oil change. Most newer vehicles come equipped with an oil change indicator to let you know exactly when your oil level is low. That’ll usually show up well before it’s truly a problem, so you’ll have plenty of time to bring your vehicle in for service.
Otherwise, the easiest way to monitor your vehicle’s oil level is by monitoring your mileage over time. However, these intervals will vary, depending on your vehicle’s make, mileage, and year as well as how often you drive and your driving conditions.
In some places, you’ll find that 3,000 miles is still the best interval between oil changes. In others, you may find that 5,000 miles to 7,500 miles is the new norm due to advances in modern engine oil. However, it’s possible that your vehicle can make it for longer in between oil changes.
Although it’ll ultimately depend on how far and how often you drive, a safe way to ensure that your vehicle has clean and healthy oil is to have it changed every six to 12 months.
